1. Crossing your legs will give you varicose veins.
Sitting down and crossing your legs won't cause varicose or spider veins, but standing may. Pronounced veins often crop up on people who either have a genetic predisposition to them (so thank Mom or Dad) or have jobs that require them to stand a lot, says Kevin Pinski, a dermatologist in Chicago. Standing makes the vascular network work extra-hard to pump blood from the legs up to the heart. If the valves, which keep blood flowing in one direction within your vessels, aren't functioning properly, a pooling of blood can occur and result in unsightly veins. Pregnancy, which puts added pressure on the circulatory system, or a trauma — getting hit by a softball or a car door, for example — can also lead to varicose or spider veins. "But simply crossing your legs will not cause them," says Pinski.

2. You can get rid of cellulite.
Ah, if only. And for what it's worth, it's not for lack of women's trying. "This remains one of the holy grails of cosmetic dermatology," says Timothy Flynn, a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. The truth is, nothing can be done to permanently eliminate it — not even liposuction. Cellulite consists of fat deposits that get trapped between the fibrous bands that connect the skin's tissues. The bands squeeze the fat under the skin, resulting in a lumpy texture. Luck of the gene pool mostly determines who will and won't get cellulite. It doesn't matter whether you're fat or thin, rich or poor, famous or just plain folks. You can, however, temporarily reduce its orange peel-like appearance. Firming creams often contain caffeine to tighten and smooth the skin. But a basic moisturizer will also work to hydrate and swell the skin, making cellulite a little less obvious. Or try using a self-tanner. "A fake tan will help camouflage it," says Elizabeth Tanzi, a dermatologist and a codirector of laser surgery at the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery, in Washington, D.C.

3. Shaving will make your hair grow back darker and thicker.
False. "Hair that hasn't been cut grows to a point," says Woolery-Lloyd. "It's widest at the base and narrowest at the tip." When you shave a hair, you cut it at the base. The widest part then grows out, and the hair appears thicker. But shaving doesn't change the width, density, or color of hair.

4. Putting vaseline on your face nightly will prevent wrinkles.
Marilyn Monroe allegedly slathered the thick salve on religiously to stay youthful-looking, but that doesn't mean you should. "Petroleum jelly is the strongest moisturizer there is because it forces oils into the skin and prevents them from evaporating," says Paul Jarrod Frank, a dermatologist in New York City. As the skin ages, it loses its ability to retain moisture, and skin that's dry looks older. "Petrolatum can make wrinkles less apparent because it's adding moisture to the skin, which softens lines, but it can't actually prevent aging," Pinski says. Only a cream with a proven active ingredient, such as retinol, can stave off wrinkles. Plus, petrolatum is so greasy that it can create other problems, including breakouts.

5. Wearing nail polish all the time will make your nails turn yellow.
True, but you can wear enamel all you like and still avoid discoloration. Nails are porous, and they absorb the pigment in polishes. "Darker colors, especially reds, have more pigment, so they often stain your nails," says Maria Salandra, the owner of Finger Fitness, in Cliffside Park, New Jersey. The solution: Before applying polish, paint on a clear base coat, such as Essie First Base Base Coat ($8, 800-232-1155), to prevent nails from absorbing pigment.

6. You can shrink your pores.
Sort of. It's actually impossible to change the size of pores, but you can make them look smaller — and using egg whites, a beauty trick Grandma may have tried, does work. "Egg whites tighten the skin, giving the illusion of smaller pores, but it's a temporary effect," says Elizabeth McBurney, a clinical professor of dermatology at Tulane University School of Medicine, in New Orleans.

7. If you use wax to remove hair, fewer hairs will grow back.
This can be true, but you'd have to spend a couple of decades waxing regularly to see results. "Wax rips the hair out at the follicles," explains Woolery-Lloyd. "And any repeated injury to the follicles over time — we're talking 20 years — could damage some follicles to the point that they don't grow back." So employ waxing for its ability to keep your legs smoother longer than shaving can, not for diminishing hair growth.

8. Preparation H deflates puffiness.
This is a secret of makeup artists everywhere, and there's a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that this hemorrhoid cream can reduce undereye baggage, but no clinical studies have been done. One of the product's ingredients, a yeast derivative that is said to reduce puffiness, is no longer found in the version that's available in the States. (The cream was reformulated in 1994. The original formula is still available in Canada.) The other ingredient that is credited with reducing inflammation is phenylephrine, which temporarily constricts blood vessels. Nevertheless, using Preparation H around the eyes can cause dry and inflamed skin, says McBurney, so use this only where it's meant to be used, south of the belt line.

9. Rubbing your eyes creates wrinkles.
You won't get crow's-feet just from kneading your eyes when you're tired, says Frank. But the tug of gravity and the repetitive movement of facial muscles, as in smiling or frowning, can break down the collagen in your skin and create wrinkles over time. So that silly taunt you heard as a child — "If you keep making that face, it will freeze that way" — has merit.

10. Applying cocoa butter or olive oil will stop stretch marks.
Sadly, this isn't true. Stretch marks occur when skin expands quickly (as in pregnancy), breaking the collagen and elastin fibers that normally support it. Or they're simply luck of the genetic draw. "Stretch marks are formed below the top layer of skin, where the cocoa butter and olive oil can't reach," says McBurney. The most either can do is quell the itching that occurs when skin expands.

11. Brushing your hair 100 strokes a day will make it shine.
Marcia Brady, it turns out, was overzealous in her beauty routine. "One hundred strokes is too much," says Christopher Mackin, a trichologist (someone who studies hair) at the Gil Ferrer Salon, in New York City. "You'll do more damage than good." Hair will break if you tug on it too much. However, gentle brushing — a few strokes here and there — will make hair shine by distributing the natural oils from the scalp down the hair shafts and flattening the cuticles to make them reflect more light. More significant, light brushing removes impurities and stimulates blood flow to the scalp, which nourishes hair follicles and keeps them healthy.

12. Tanning or dotting on toothpaste can help get rid of pimples.
True to both, but don't run for the tanning booth or apply a Colgate face mask. "A particular wavelength of light has been shown to stimulate porphyrin, a chemical that eradicates the bacteria that cause acne," says Pinski. But while some sun exposure may help pimples get better temporarily, you can experience a rebound effect. "If the skin gets dry and damaged from the sun, your body's response is to produce oil," says Frank. Plus, sun exposure can lead to bigger problems, such as premature aging and skin cancer. As for toothpaste, it often contains menthol, which can help dry out a pimple. But other common toothpaste ingredients can irritate the skin. And there are much better over-the-counter options than toothpaste, such as Clinique Acne Solutions Emergency Gel Lotion ($13.50, http://www.clinique.com/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY4913&PRODUCT_ID=PROD611). If, however, you're on a reality-TV survival show and all you have is a tube of the white stuff, a couple of million viewers, and a blemish, a dab on your dot will work.

13. Sleeping on your back or with a satin pillow will help your face stay wrinkle-free.
That's a big exaggeration with a little truth behind it. As you age, the collagen and elastin fibers in your skin break down, so when you burrow your face into a pillow, putting pressure on these fibers for several hours at a time, the skin is increasingly less likely to snap back. "If you have a pattern of sleeping on one side, that side of your face will typically show more wrinkling than the other," says Tanzi, who adds that the difference is very subtle. Learning to sleep on your back can help your skin a bit, but you'd fare much better wearing a good sunscreen every day than sleeping on a satin pillow, says Woolery-Lloyd.

14. Rinsing your hair with beer will make it thicker.
True, and drinking too much beer can give you a wicked headache. A final rinse of beer at the end of your shower will leave you with more voluminous strands. "The beer builds up the circumference of the shafts," says Philip Berkovitz, founder of Philip B. hair products. One caveat: You may smell like a frat house until the scent dissipates. Instead, try a thickening shampoo with hops, such as Aussie Shampoo Real Volume ($4, http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=27493&catid=11936&trx=PLST-0-CLOSE-MATCHES&trxp1=11936&trxp2=27493&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-CLOSE-MATCHES).

15. Applying mayonnaise to your hair will make it glossier.
Confirmed. Mayo is made with an oil base, and it makes hair shine. But to avoid a mess, try this method: Apply a cup of mayonnaise mixed with a teaspoon of vanilla extract (to cut the mayonnaise scent) to dry, unwashed hair. Cover your head with a warm towel to help the mayonnaise penetrate, and leave it on for 20 minutes. Before you step into the shower, apply a heaping handful of shampoo to your hair. Don't add any water yet; just massage it in thoroughly for several minutes. That will help break down the excess oil, says Berkovitz. Rinse with cool water in the shower and your hair will come out shiny and silky. If the idea of putting a condiment in your hair makes you queasy, try a rich glossing treatment, such as Phytonectar Ultra-Nourishing Oil Treatment ($26, 800-557-4986 for store locations), which contains egg and rich oils, the basic ingredients in mayonnaise.

16. Never pluck a gray hair, because 10 more will grow in its place.
This is false. "How can you get 10 new hair follicles from plucking one?" asks Berkovitz. If anything, ripping a hair out by its root leads to regrowth that refuses to lie flat. Your best bet for conquering gray? See a colorist.

17. Hair grows faster in summer than in winter.
Although studies have shown that men's beards grow faster in summer, there is no evidence to suggest that the hair on your head does. Many women say they can tell it grows faster then, but if so, the difference is slight and barely detectable, according to McBurney. The only time women's hair has been proven to grow faster is during pregnancy, thanks to increased hormones.

18. Drinking water keeps your skin from drying out.
"This is one of the biggest myths out there," says Frank. What keeps skin moist is oil, not water. Certainly, drinking water helps vital organs operate properly, and too little water in your body can give you a wan appearance. But your skin can still look dry even if you drink eight glasses a day.

Sad Memories Please don't Drink and Drive

This post is just about my thoughts in general...life...etc

Moving back to my old place (with the best friend where i lived before a year ago) brings up old memories. Just stepping into that house, I am immersed in the aroma of bread and food (feels like love to me). I walk up those stairs and images from my past (ex boyfriend, old friends) appear in my mind, good times, and bad times. Of course being the crybaby i am (one of the songs my ex dedicated to me was: fergie's big girls don't cry ..haha..funny, no :)), my eyes start tearing up.

I remember sitting in my room one day over a year ago, when i received a call from a close friend at 4am. he called to tell me that my best friend of seven years (and ex boyfriend now) passed away in a car accident. I just sat there shocked. I really couldn't believe that someone so dear and sweet to me could disappear in a heartbeat like that. He was supposed to come up to visit me the week after too.

I have three best friends, him, May, and Henry, and it's really hard for me to be close to anyone on that level easily. It also hurts to go home every weekend, because his house is right on the corner next to mine. To make matters worse, he has a twin, and it was so hard to look at him at the funeral.

well i'm going on a tangent here (tearing up :)). but he died because the driver was drinking and driving. so please, please, whatever you do, please don't drink and drive. not only could you lose your life, you could also take someone else's away. I hope that this will never happen to anyone.

sorry it had to end on a sad note.

please be thankful for those people around you and let them know how much you love them, because you never know when it might be the last moment you get to have with them. please be appreciative of your parents, they've done so much for you (i realized further a parent's love for their child at my friend's funeral, his mom basically lost 20-30 pounds in just two weeks and she looked so miserable and sad it was hard not to cry for her as well). please don't live life with regrets. you'll feel much more free-er.

please just smile at a stranger everyday, you never know when your smile might save a life =) (no joke, i read on the news a couple years ago about a guy who was about to commit suicide but then he saw a stranger smile at him on the bridge and that stopped him)

just appreciate what you have, and seize the moment! =P

love you all!

kimmei

p.s. love you henry and may! you guys are the best, don't know what i would've done without you two.

17 foods you must eat before you die

(sorry still moving, post pictures of yesterday soon!)

anyways, interesting article i read:

17 foods to try before you die

Outstanding Excellent Very good Good Fair Poor Awful
Jun 09, 2007 04:30 AM Amy Pataki Restaurant Critic

So many foods, so little time.
It's a challenge I face every week, deciding where and what to eat.
Recently, British food writer Anna Longmore compiled a list in Arena Magazine of the 50 foods you should try before you die.
Guess that narrows it down.
But Longmore didn't eat any of the items on her list. Not the elk heart, duck embryo or crispy pig's ear.

Deliciousness must be vouched for. Here's my list, shorter but fully endorsed.
These are must-eats: foods that will please your palate, expand your mind and gratify your soul. They are not chancy mouthfuls to gross out your friends. (Although I've eaten my share of those, from insects to fish sperm to snake.) Most are readily found in our restaurants and food shops.
So dig in, the clock is ticking.

Kobe beef sashimi If you've only had Kobe beef as a burger, then you're missing the point. The point is fat. The richly marbled flesh is more white than red – in Japan, the grading goes from 1 to 12; our top-grade Prime would rate a 5 – and cooking melts the fat away. Try it raw, shaved into paper-thin slices, and surrender to the texture.

Scallop roe Oyster bars sometimes serve scallops on the half-shell. Pounce. When raw, their briny sweetness is intensified. The fat, orange comma of coral attached – as hermaphrodites, both sexes contain roe – is even better, like caviar but more delicate.

LangósThis Hungarian snack of deep-fried dough could've resulted from a one-night stand between a beavertail and a pizza crust. At its best, it is a pebbled golden disc, both crunchy and puffed, brushed with crushed garlic and consumed with icy beer. Sadly, good langós is hard to find out of its native land; if you come across one, please let me know.

Pick-your-own produce Consider yourself lucky if you've eaten a sun-warm tomato straight from the vine. Cherries, apricots or blueberries you've plucked taste a hundred times better than their supermarket cousins.

Le Riopelle de l'IsleA triple-crème Quebec cheese with a blooming white rind like brie and a creamy paste of gentle funkiness. Like butter gone wild.

HorseSweeter, leaner and redder than beef. Eating horse is traditional in other countries and legal in ours. Don't be squeamish. Try it at La Palette, Coca and other omnivorous restaurants.

Street food Throw caution, and hygiene, to the wind.

TrufflesTrained pigs and dogs root out these astoundingly fragrant tubers in European forests. Fresh black truffle shavings elevate any dish to heaven. White truffle oil does in a pinch.

Salsify A rare root vegetable with mild flavour and an elegant, tapering form. The late Café Brussel glazed tender salsify batons with cream and lemon. Worth seeking out.
Bone marrow Wobbly, greasy and incomparably rich. A bistro staple. Scoop out the centre of boiled or roasted beef bones yield and spread the marrow on toast; sprinkle with fleur de sel. Osso bucco also yields delicious marrow.

Bitter greens Wake the taste buds with a dandelion salad or steamed rapini. Or do like the Greeks and tuck into a plate of cold horta, wilted bitter greens tricked out with lemon and garlic. Most refreshing.

Anything cooked over a wood fire.

Real balsamic vinegar Forget the $5 supermarket kind. That's just wine vinegar coloured with caramel. Real balsamic is made only in Modena and Reggio Emilia, where it is aged at least three years in wooden barrels for complexity. Treat yourself to a bottle marked "tradizionale," which pours out like dark, tangy syrup and can be eaten with a spoon.

Real whipped cream I'll always have a soft spot for Reddi-Whip, especially when squirted directly into the mouth while standing in front of the open fridge door. But real whipped cream, the soft peaks lightly sweetened and kissed by vanilla? No contest.

Sweetened condensed milk Eat a spoonful straight from the can. Betcha can't stop at one.

Afternoon tea There's something enormously civilizing about a pot of loose-leaf Darjeeling, a plate of cucumber sandwiches (crustless, of course) and a pair of warm currant scones slathered with Devon cream. Wide-brimmed hat and gloves optional.

Foie gras Mired in ethical controversy – Chicago banned it from restaurants last year owing to concerns about animal cruelty – the fattened livers of force-fed duck and geese are singularly delicious; they make an unbelievably silky terrine. Eat it here while it's still legal.

International Makeup Trade Show

anyone want to go with me? or meet up? =P

Known simply as “The Show” to the make-up world, the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) is the only show of its kind in the world. Thousands of make-up artists, vendors, manufacturers and enthusiasts convene for the make-up world’s biggest gathering to discuss, display, discover and collect the best the industry has to offer. If you’ve ever wanted to learn the techniques or experiment with the products, or if you just have an interest in the art of make-up, then L.A. is where you need to be in June. The Pasadena Convention Center will host the 10th Anniversary IMATS, which is presented by Make-Up Artist magazine. On June 23 and 24, make-up pros will come together to provide the finest education and demonstrations in the world— ideas will be exchanged, products will be tried, and make-up secrets will be revealed

History
During the mid-’90s, there were no trade shows specifically for make-up artists, and cosmetic companies expressed a desire for such an event. Knowing just how much education could be provided, Make-Up Artist publisher Michael Key held the first International Make-Up Artist Trade Show in August 1997. The Show allowed artists to custom-tailor what they wanted to see. It offered a diverse mix of presentations, products, demonstrations, and education by some of the biggest names in the business. Like Make-Up Artist magazine, the Trade Show continues to further Key’s vision to educate and reach make-up artists around the world.

MAC Trend Report

(a friend sent this to me) probably from mac website.
just thought you guys might be interested!

MAKEUP APPLICATION AND PRODUCTS
Right now I love the following combination in very sheer coats, it looks like magic to me: Fix+, Studio Moisture Fix, Face and Body Foundation applied with a 187 Brush, Select Moisturecover Concealer applied with a 222 Brush, set with Loose Blot Powder using a 136 Brush and a very sheer coat of Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. The key is to apply very little of each of those products to create flawless but natural-looking skin.Luc B, M·A·C Senior Artist, United StatesMy number one rule is to not over-prep the skin! I find if I do too much massaging and buffing and priming and prepping the skin becomes too slick. A little dab will do ya is always a good rule of thumb.Victor C, M·A·C Senior Artist, United States

Exfoliate skin at least two times per week to increase cell rejuvenation and help provide a natural glow. Wear SPF sunscreen everyday. Liberally massage and layer different moisturizers to plump up the surface cells and increase natural glow. Often, I like to add Strobe Cream to highlight the high planes of the face.Jane M, M·A·C Senior Artist, United States

ON THE SET
When prepping your model's skin, start by touching the skin and exploring all areas of the face. Go through the skincare rolodex in your brain to determine what will give you the finish you desire. Always carry primers and Fix+ to help hydrate the skin.Caitlin C, M·A·C Senior Artist, CanadaWhen working backstage, do not spend your time taking part in idle chit chat while waiting for models; find out which models are in hair, which ones will be arriving late, or which ones may have special needs…the first assistant is always a source of information when it comes to finding out the status of “the list”. Bianca A, Directory of Makeup Artistry, New YorkBefore you apply the makeup to your model, have a conversation with the photographer about the lighting conditions for the shoot. Doing so will result in your model's makeup looking extraordinary in the photographs. By knowing the lighting, you can evaluate things like how much shine you want on the skin and what contouring should be done.Paul Innis, Makeup Artist

FASHION AND TREND
Creating flawless skin makes people look that healthy and so much more beautiful that the colors we put on become of secondary importance as the person looked beautiful already. To me, the skin is my main focus. With Face and Body Foundation, I always give the perfect and natural finish I want.Beatriz C, M·A·C Senior Artist, MexicoWith foundation application, less is more. Start with a transparent finish and keep layering as needed. I like to start from the center of the face and spread the foundation outwards in long strokes.Fred V, M·A·C Senior Artist, United StatesTraditional trends in beauty in other outside global cultures provide an ample source of ideas on using color and texture in body adornment.Bianca A, Directory of Makeup Artistry, New York

MANAGING YOUR CAREER
To me, a great artist is someone that is constantly striving to perfect their art. I have seen amazingly talented Makeup Artists and Photographers stop evolving whe they thought they found their best way of doing things. They then become stale and even what they did best becomes just a routine production. Always strive to do better and you will.Luc B, M·A·C Senior Artist, United StatesDo as many test shots as possible to build industry contact and a strong portfolio.Gina B, M·A·C Senior Artist, United StatesIt's difficult to really tell someone how to start out because it depends on where you are and what kind of work you want to do. Many of the best makeup artist I know have started their careers right at M·A·C, or try an accredited makeup school. Either way, you'll need to create a portfolio with quality professional images. Start by contacting photographers and model agencies and prepare to do some work for prints or jpg images. Wedding and special events can be a good place to make money while building your book. Remember that you will need to decide what your areas of strength are and what suits the demographic. Research agencies and see if you can meet for an introduction or post your work on a website portfolio or networking site like Model Mayhem, Myspace or Facebook. Be open to feedback and keep your images updated.Jenn K, M·A·C Senior Artist, United States

Weird, Wacky, Effective Beauty Goodies

By Ysolt Usigan

Just because something may seem a bit weird doesn't mean it's bad. In fact, what makes these products wacky is what makes them so effective. Read on for our list of offbeat goodies that will beautify, rejuvenate and shock you (in a good way)...

1) botox alternative

At $500 a jar, Doctor D. Schwab's Alphasomes RC Rejuvenate and Correct is less expensive than Botox, not to mention a lot safer (it's derived from vegetables). The cream will prevent the breakdown of your skin's elastin. Basically, RC Rejuvenate and Correct will correct skin tone, firm skin and prevent the development of new wrinkles and crow's feet, without a needle.

kimmei's thoughts: now if i had a million dollars....hmmm how about no =P

2) the best cure for chapped lips
Photobucket
Sometimes lip gloss just won't do the trick. You apply, but it only masks your chapped lips underneath. Jane Iredale's Sugar&Butter lip duo ($24 at JaneIredaleDirect.com) is the latest chapped-lip antidote. Use the lip exfoliator (a combo of beeswax and organic brown sugar) to lift dry skin. Lick off the remains (yes, lick off the remains). Then, use the tinted plumper (it's like butter) as you normally would any gloss.

3) a curling iron...for what?
Photobucket
eyelash curling iron:

While the thought of using a curling iron on your fragile eyelashes sounds super-scary, the Artemis Woman's Double Curl gently heats and curls. Its two heated pads change from orange to white when it's ready. Be careful — don't keep it on for too long. When used properly, the Gentle Heat Lash Curler ($14.99 at ArtemisWoman.com) will give you bold, beautiful lashes.

4) this body treatment is hot
Photobucket
fountain of youth in a jar

Don't be alarmed when you use Ole Henriksen's African Red Tea Self-Heating Body Souffle ($65 at OleHenriksen.com). The warming vibration is normal. This natural wonder is great for all skin types and slows down the aging process. African red tea embodies warming powers that stimulate circulation and penetrate muscle tissue, which will relax you and soften your skin in the process. Just massage onto damp skin with vigorous strokes and exaggerated tapping motions.

5) if you don't know how to apply eyeshadow
Photobucket
Whether you're lazy or don't have a steady hand, this Instant Eye Shadow Applicator from Color On Professional makes putting on makeup as simple as can be. Just place over a closed eyelid and peel. The variety 10-pack kit, which retails for $30 at ColorOnPro.com, comes with pairs of Sunset Beach (peachy), Elle (dark violet), Ibiza (deep browns), Laguna (purple) and Noche (smoky).

6) the miracle pillow
Photobucket
remove wrinkles while you sleep
kimmei's thoughts: whoaaa haven't heard of this one...

It sounds outlandish, we know. Removes wrinkles while you sleep? This can't be true, but according to Cupron, manufacturer of towels, sheets, pillowcases and socks, it is. They just came out with a super pillow ($45.99 and up at Cupron.com) that rejuvenates your skin within the first four weeks of use. The idea is that natural copper heals. This pillowcase, harnessed with that power, will prevent wrinkles and improve your skin's overall appearance while you sleep. Talk about a beauty nap!

7) tweezers with attitude
Photobucket
Sure, it's a painful activity. No one likes to pluck. But with these snazzy tweezers from Japonesque, you can add a hint of fun to hair removal. Choose from blue flowers, pink flowers, tiger (pictured) and moon. The Japonesque Limited Edition Artisan Flat Tip Tweezers are $20 at Ulta locations nationwide.

8) beauty goes vegan
Photobucket
Surya Brasil's new Amazonia Preciosa body care boasts secrets from the Amazon. The entire line is also vegan and doesn't contain sulfates, artificial dyes, and artificial fragrance that can sometimes affect sensitive skin. Even better, the pots containing these products are 100 percent biodegradable with no chemical ingredients in their composition. Once discarded, they degrade naturally after eight months. Choose from liquid hand soap, shower gel, facial toner, hands and body lotion, leg and foot balm, massage oil, facial mask with clay, facial moisturizer and clay mask at SuryaCosmetics.com.

9) rare $400 hair oil
Photobucket
Longhairlovers Rare Hair Oil promises unprecedented growth and conditioning. The at-home hair treatment is made out of the finest, not to mention most expensive all-natural ingredients. If your hair is thinning or dry, this offbeat beauty goody will stimulate cell growth, soothe sensitive scalps and provide radiant sheen. It'll set you back $400 for a 4 oz. bottle at LongHairLovers.com, but it's worth it. This product delivers on its promises.

kimmei's thoughts: uhhhh no, 100 dollars an oz? i'll stick with la mer

10) get the princess treatment
Photobucket
Based on an Indonesian marriage ritual, Mande Lular's Sanctuary Spa collection combines jasmine, ylang-ylang (small flower of the cananga tree), coconut milk and exotic spices. Such things are used in the traditional pre-marriage ritual practiced on Indonesian princesses. Soak in the Mande Lular Sensuous Bath Creme ($16.99 at Target stores nationwide now and Target.com after January 20) for the first part of your beauty ritual. The honey, aloe vera, coconut milk and exotic spices will carefully nourish, soothe and moisturize your skin.

kimmei's final thoughts: wow i found a lot of interesting products i never heard about. hope you enjoyed reading it! =P

Celebrity Makeup Kim Kardashian Makeup tips

Here are makeup tips from Kim Kardashian's official blog. i found it to be an interesting read!
source

here is what she had to say:

Okay, this is going to be a long post because I absolutely love makeup! And I mix so many different kinds.

Here we go...

Just so everyone knows, my make up artist Stephen Moleski has pretty much taught me everything I know.

Remember that everyone's color is different so please ask someone at the store where you purchase your makeup what works for you. Even if you think we have the same skin coloring, our tones can be different and I don't want anyone to waste money on concealer or foundation colors that aren't absolutely perfect!

STEP 1: I always start with a clean face. Then I put on Intuit 'Photo Shoot.' Intuit is a great company and I love the names of their products. Photo Shoot is a make up primer. I put it on after my moisturizer, which basically is like a moisturizer that will fill the pours on your face which will help set the foundation so it will last longer.

STEP 2: I use Cle De Peau concealer stick (it's super expensive, but works for me). It comes in two colors, I use Ocre, which is the darker of the two. I also use M.A.C. concealer (which comes in a little pot) if I run out of Cle de Peau. Everyone's color is different but I use NW25. I put the concealer under my eyes because I absolutely hate dark circles! I also use concealer to cover up blemishes!

STEP 3: After I put the concealer on I put on Make Up Forever liquid foundation. I mix one pump of No. 5 and two pumps of No. 4. I also have No. 3 for the winter time when I am really pale. I mix the foundations to get the perfect color. I blend them with the coolest make up brush. Its the M.A.C. brush No. 180.

STEP 4: Since I hate dark circles, after the foundation, I put on a little more concealer just under my eyes since the foundation makes it darker under my eyes. I use a lighter concealer from M.A.C. NW30 in a little lipstick tube-looking container and I select 'moisture cover.'

STEP 5: To set the foundation I lightly brush on with a big powder brush M.A.C. Select Sheer Pressed Powder NC 30, then to make me a little tanner I lightly brush on M.A.C. Powder NW 45.

STEP 6: Now its blush time! I'm obsessed with blush! I use a color called Gingerly to warm me up and give me a little color and then add a pink color called Cheek to give me rosey cheeks. I just started getting into cream blush and find it works a lot better and lasts a lost longer.

STEP 7: Time for the eyes! My favorite part! I first put down a M.A.C. Paint pot in a light color that matches my skin called Painterly. I just use my finder and put enough onto cover the lid. This creamy shadow makes it so that the powder eye shadow does not crease. Like, if you wear make up all day you will see that the eye shadow begins to crease and get oily, but if you put this paint color down first it won't! I love cream shadow and use the color cream pots too! I love colored shadow; so it depends on the color depend of shadow I plan to wear: If it's black smokey I use Carbon by M.A.C.; if its grey smokey I use Knight Divine or Print; if it's bown smokey I use Embark by M.A.C. I love a fresh shimmery look as well and use M.A.C. Pigment called Tan. Its so pretty! I love bright colors for eye make up! I absolutely love Make Up Forever and don't think anyone does pigment colors better than them. So again, depending on what color you feel like wearing, go look at Make Up Forever's colors to choose from.

STEP 8: I always use black pencil eyeliner. My favorite is Stilla black pencil.

STEP 9: Now its mascara time! Putting on mascara completes the look, but I have it when I mess up and get it on my eye lid and mess up the eye shadow. I used to use Lancome Hypnose, and still do, but I recently started to use M.A.C. Zoom mascara -- which is amazing! I take my time and put coat after coat. I love to layer mascaras so I will probably start with the M.A.C. Zoom and then put Lancome Hypnose on top. I always use a seperator brush to seperate my lashes. I am completely clueless on how to put false lashes on, so I only wear them for photo shoots sometimes.

STEP 10: The final touch is putting on lipstick! I usually use M.A.C. Lipliner called Stripdown (I use it very lightly) and a lipstick called Angel and put Nars Turkish Delight lipgloss on top. Or for my very nude matte lip I wear Nars Belle De Jour and I line my lips first with M.A.C. Subculture lipliner.

That completes the Kim Kardashian make up lesson!

Alternative to Creme de La Mer

So.....lately my skin has been really dying (maybe its the weather or something, but its been really dry)

which led to me looking online for alternatives to my beloved creme de la mer, learned alot of interesting things (like supposedly it costs pennies to make la mer and the ingredients in it aren't really "unique" per se, it's just the algae in it that makes it good.

sooo...people have said

1) hope in a jar (oprahs fav, but i'm not too fond of the smell [maybe it's just me])
Photobucket

Often referred to as makeup optional skin in a jar, our famous hope in a jar formula was originally created for the medical market and is a world-renowned skin cream. It contains beta glucan, a powerful antioxidant, which enhances skin immunology; and lactic acid, which gently exfoliates skin to reveal smoother, healthier looking skin. For years, plastic surgeons have been recommending this formula to patients in pursuit of younger, healthier skin. Results can be seen and felt within days, leaving a healthy, rosy glow to the skin that doesn't require makeup or cover up.

3) Patricia Wexler Regenerating Serum (the pink jelly) (ppl supposedly swear by this, and i have to admit i really like it [hehehe i take it from my mommy])
